Mega Evolution of the Grass-type Starter:
Of all the gameplay mechanics that Pokémon games have offered in the last four generations, my favorite is Mega Evolution (soon to return in the next game, Pokemon Legends Z-A).
So, wanting to try my hand at Mega design, I decided to start with my trio of Starters, all with the common theme of "movie monsters."
For the Grass-type, I chose to represent Aliens and other extraterrestrials from science fiction films. As a model, I drew inspiration from several well-known creatures, such as Xenomorphs. But for the Mega Evolution, rather than emphasizing the "Xenomorph" aspect (for example, by drawing inspiration from the Xenomorph Queen), I opted for a different approach, drawing inspiration from the other aliens that had originally served as my models. So I favored designs reminiscent of the Tripods from "War of the Worlds," but also UFOs in general.
To retain its insectoid origins, I also had the idea of drawing inspiration from crustaceans, since insects (especially the oldest ones like Silverfish and Zygentomas) are also part of the large phylogenetic group Pancrustacea!
The Shiny is inspired by the concept of the basic form, which borrowed its colors from malachite. But the mega evolution accentuates the blue levels, which, in my opinion, gives it a look closer to the colors of UFOs or science fiction spaceships.
