The last group of octopods is easily recognizable by their vague resemblance to Earth's running ungulates, such as goats, antelopes, horses, etc. These animals seem to have converged on two ways of moving and using their four pairs of legs: the first group maximizes their running speed through jumping movements, propelled by three pairs of hind legs; the second group, having focused on endurance, uses two pairs of forelegs and two pairs of hind legs for running.
This group of animals has been named: Ungulate-Orthoptera (code name: UOR) for their ungulate appearance and their grasshopper-like jumping.
The "Jumpers" are one of the two groups that use three pairs of legs for running. Their name comes from their escape method, which involves leaping in various directions to confuse predators while minimizing energy expenditure. Among the "Jumpers" are the Deerbug, more often called "Eiktirnir," which belongs to a family of horned animals resembling deer or antelopes. Their behavior is, in fact, quite similar to these terrestrial animals.
The second group, which uses three pairs of legs to run, is nicknamed "Sprinters." Unlike Jumpers, which run by bounding, "Sprinters" run more conventionally, but using the energy of their powerful hind legs to accelerate over short distances. Furthermore, they are morphologically distinguished from "Jumpers" by the smaller size of the "spring" muscles in their femurobia. The Giraffe-hopper is undoubtedly the best-known Sprinter species. Also nicknamed "Kirin," its evolution seems to converge with that of Earth's giraffes, while possessing a flexible neck with the minimal articulation its distant ancestors allowed.
Finally, the last group, those that don't use three pairs of legs to run, are nicknamed the "Trotters." Using two pairs of forelegs and two pairs of hind legs, these animals have a running style based on the almost simultaneous use of their legs, giving them a gait similar to that of a four-legged ungulate. Several species resemble horses or goats, but the most remarkable species is the "Membracid Zebra," which has armored crest that make it appear more massive when viewed from the side, but from the front, the deception reveals an animal that is actually very narrow, with these crest practically flat.
