Zeros Fauna - Scastal's Rivers

Scastal is an equatorial archipelago near the continent of Sanipse. Originating from intense volcanic activity, the island is known for its jungles, its drier landscapes, and its immense mangroves that insinuate themselves deep inland.
The endemic fauna combines the familiar with the strange, a unique and fascinating character to observe or study.

Here are some known species found in rivers and freshwater:
1) Punctuated ryctuns (locally: RIKTUNS TAKTÉ) [1-1.4 m]: A large prehistoric amphibian, its wide mouth allows it to swallow its prey, which it hunts by lying in wait, camouflaged in ponds.
2) Lacustrine grenode (GWENOD LACUTRIN) [10-24 cm]: A frog that preys on small rodents. Grenodes are recognizable by their longer arms and claws that help them grasp their prey.
3) Stonehead (TÈT-DI-WOCH) [25-35 cm]: A fish belonging to a group capable of living in both sea and rivers. Its name comes from the armored skin on its head.
4) Hollow's cutyfish (BARBICH DI HOLOW) [7.5 cm]: A corysypriform fish endemic to the island, known for its bright colors. This species feeds on the sandy bottoms of rivers and streams.
5) Ulgy-mug salmon (SOMON LÈD-BOUCH) [1.2 m]: A salmonid from tropical regions, some populations come to live and spawn in the waters of Scastal. It is one of the salmon species that reproduces several times in its lifetime.
6) Punctuate perch (PEWCH PTITAKTÉE) [16 cm]: A very common fish in the lakes and rivers of Scatal. Carnivorous and voracious, this fish regulates the populations of a huge number of aquatic invertebrates.
7) Scastal's tiger crayfish (ÉKRIBICH-TIG DI ASTAL) [15-20 cm]: This crayfish, endemic to northern Scastal, is recognizable by its speckled claws and striped shell. The size of its body spines decreases with age.
8) Creeping stingray (PASTÉNAG RANPANTE) [50-100 cm]: This freshwater stingray is feared by fishermen for the sting of its very painful caudal spines. Otherwise, it is a rather calm animal.
9) Freshwater dogshark (HOLBICH DLO DOUS) [1 m]: A cousin of the mangrove species, this species prefers less brackish waters. However, it must spawn in salt water.
10) Scastal’s turtlefish (PWASON-TOTI DI SCASTAL) [20-25 cm]: Endemic Testudichthyform fish. Quite similar to other species from other continents, this species is mainly recognizable by its patterns.
