Zeros Fauna - Scastal's Mangroves

Scastal is an equatorial archipelago near the continent of Sanipse. Originating from intense volcanic activity, the island is known for its jungles, its drier landscapes, and its immense mangroves that insinuate themselves deep inland.
The endemic fauna combines the familiar with the strange, a unique and fascinating character to observe or study.

Here are some notable species from the large territorial mangroves:
1) Kleptoparasitic parakeet (locally: PÉRUGIE VOLÈ-NICH) [24 cm]: This parrot species practices "brood parasitism," like the cuckoo, by laying its eggs in the nests of Scastal's parakeets.
2) Scastal's parakeet (PÉRUGIE DI SCASTAL) [18 cm]: A small parrot species endemic to the Scastal mangroves. It nests in the tops of mangrove trees and feeds on their fruit.
3) Swamp sorex (SOWEX DI MARÉKAJ) [12-16 cm]: A relative of shrews, this species of freshwater mangroves hunts primarily underwater, hunting crustaceans as well as gastropods and insects.
4) Giant paracicada (PARASIKAD JÉYANTE) [4.5-7 cm]: This cicada sings and breeds in the branches of mangrove trees, but lays its eggs in non-flooded areas. Its song is very powerful.
5) Triaclam (TWIACLAM) [3-5 cm]: This mussel lives closer to the sea. It anchors itself to the roots of mangrove trees and defends itself with its sharp edges.
6) Tiger Clamsel (CLAMSEL TIGWÉE) [3-4 cm]: This mussel lives more inland. It anchors itself to the roots of swamp trees. Highly gregarious, colonies can sometimes smother tree roots.
7) Equilateral snail (SCARGO ÉKILATÈR) [5.5-8.5 cm]: A snail with a more or less greenish striped shell. Its name comes from the tendency of its shell to form, in profile, an almost perfectly equilateral triangle.
8) Mangrove iguana (IGWAN DI PALÉTUVIÈ) [30-40 cm]: Arboreal iguana that feeds on mangrove leaves. Its diet, which is too rich in sea salt, regularly forces it to expel it through nasal glands.
9) Trigonal crab (KRAB TRIYANG) [5-6.5 cm]: A species accustomed to mangroves with more saline waters. It feeds exclusively on decaying leaves and plants that have fallen to the bottom of the water.
10) Mangrove molact (MOLAKT DI MANGROV) [2-3.5 m]: Endemic to the Scastal mangroves, this medium-sized molact hunts fish and small reptiles. Its eggs are strictly protected by the locals.
11) Crabeater dogshark (Holbich Krabie) [1 m]: A bottom-dwelling shark that feeds exclusively on crustaceans and mollusks. It often hunts in mangroves but is not exclusive to this environment.
12) Lake snapper (Vivanum lacutwin) [20-30 cm]: A fish capable of living in both saltwater and freshwater mangroves. It survives during low tides, gathering in the remaining lakes.
