ZEROS fauna - Colored Sketches : Direwolf - Hogmuth - Warg
The Worlds of Zeros are populated with impressive or fantastic animals... there are so many that it would be complicated to illustrate them all. So to go little by little, I plan to present a few of them drop by drop. (Even when they are drawn with rough lines or without colors)
On this page, I present 3 animals recently imagined from animals known from folklore or fantastic imagination.
The Dire Wolf is both an extinct canine, but also a mythological wolf from the North American regions. On Zeros, it is both a giant wolf, but also a mount for the nations that knew how to domesticate them.
The Hogmuth is literally the mix between a Boar, a Bison and a Mammoth. The idea is reminiscent of the concept of the Mamoswine polemon, but the result is more realistic, with the aim of creating an animal that could really have existed.
The Warg is essentially based on a hyena "on steroids", but its surname is inspired by both the legendary Norse Wolves and the mounts from the LOTR films (which I find vaguely similar to hyenas, in their early depictions).
DIREWOLF - Giant wolves that serve as mounts and hunting dogs for the native peoples of the Soisam Islands. In the wild, they are predators that hunt in packs of 3 to 5 individuals, including the alpha pair and their offspring.
HOGMUTH - A pig from the same regions as the direwolf (which it preys on). It is an equivalent to the bison or mammoth, with a robust body and sought-after flesh, but which cannot be obtained by breeding.
WARG - A type of giant hyena (with a short face) that is an Apex predator of the savannahs and sandy plains of Rudam-Dala. Although defined as too wild, they can be domesticated but only by the local kaarns.
