Scastal is an equatorial archipelago near the continent of Sanipse. Originating from intense volcanic activity, the island is known for its jungles, its drier landscapes, and its immense mangroves that insinuate themselves deep inland.
The endemic fauna combines the familiar with the strange, a unique and fascinating character to observe or study.

Here are some known species from the Scastal jungles:
1) Forked-tail (locally: FOUCH-KEW) [30 cm]: A small dinornid that hunts for insects hidden in dead leaves that have fallen to the ground. Males strut their tail feathers, moving them rhythmically.
2) Tyutyu finch (PINSON TYUTYU) [15 cm]: A very common seed-eating bird, recognizable by its name. It only forages at dusk.
3) Gardian dryopic (DWIYOPIK GAD) [15-17 cm]: One of the smallest woodpeckers in Zeros. Despite its size, it is very territorial and can violently defend its nest against predators.
4) Metallic magpie (PIMÉTAL) [27-30 cm]: A tropical corvid, this bird prefers to feed on fruits and seeds, but remains an opportunist and can therefore feed on just about anything.
5) Blue limbo weaver (FE-DI-LINB ARÉNYÉ) [15-20 mm]: Its defensive spines and dark, bluish coloring have earned it the bad reputation of being a spider capable of inflicting curses.
6) Common laxko (LAXKO KOMIN) [12 cm]: An arboreal counterpart to the island's Laxkos, this is also a diurnal species. Its tail serves as a fat reserve in preparation for the mating season.
7) Painted texclad (TÈXCLAD PÈNTIRE) [13 cm]: This bird, with its variegated colors, is an insectivore with a powerful song. It is common in both jungles and steppes.
8) Shady laxko (LAXKO ONBRAJ) [12 cm]: A terrestrial counterpart to the island's Laxkos, this nocturnal species has developed conical, spine-like scales to make it appear less palatable.
9) Climbing Fox (GOULPIL GRÉNPER) [75-110 cm]: Difficult to observe despite its unusual colors. It lives in the densest forests where it hunts rodents and birds by climbing trees.
10) Sylvan asioraptor (CHUWÈTOR SILVIN) [45-67 cm]: A nocturnal dinoraptor that hunts small prey. Its white and black tufts only appear in adulthood, helping to camouflage the young.
11) Wood geopigeon (JÉOPIJON DI FORÈ) [26-28 cm]: Fairly common flightless columbid, native to forests, but which has become accustomed to living near villages and parks to find food.
