18Scorpii-4 The Scorpinian Culture

The SCORPINIANS are one of the many nations that have joined the Stellar Alliance. Their people are recognized in the Alliance as very good merchants and good herbalists, despite a more carnivorous diet. In this introduction to SCORPINIAN culture, we will try to transcribe the main characteristics of this ingenious and resilient people.

Non-gendered culture
The SCORPINIANS may have lifestyles relatively similar to humans or other civilizations in our technological era, but they still have a big social difference compared to the other member species of the Star Alliance: their culture has no gender!
"No gender" does not mean that they do not understand the difference between their males, their females, or any other intersexuality group. In fact, their culture ensures perfect social equality for each individual, regardless of their sex and, therefore, their gender.
However, there is one situation where gender can be used more or less: it is in the identification of the father and mother of a child. Nevertheless, this nomenclature does not involve any disparity for either party, except for an individual management of their respective timing in their family or professional frameworks.

Individual belt and its pearls
Because the SCORPINIANS do not identify with a gender, this does not prevent them from having the notion of individual. Therefore, like our identifiers (or identity card) the SCORPINIANS have an object that serves as their individual and social identifier: the "individual pearls"!
Worn at the end of a belt (or on the ear among the pygmy tribes), these decorative pearls serve as an identity card for each individual, with many variations!
Each pearl gives information about the person, their job, their family, if they are the son of someone or the mother of a child... but they can also indicate their social status...
Formerly, the rich and merchants owned pearls made of rarer or more noble materials, indicating their power. But in the modern era, everyone uses more or less the same materials, with sometimes rarities due to the succession of old families or voluntary frivolity for pleasure.

Clothing made of plant fiber
Leather animals are rare on 18Scorpii-4, so the SCORPINIANS have not really developed the art of making clothing from animal leather. Instead, they have become masters in the art of weaving from animal silk or plant fiber!
Due to the ice age that their planet is undergoing, in cold regions, the clothing of the STOCKY tribes is composed of numerous layers with empty spaces between them, in order to let the air play its role as thermal insulation.
Jewelry and adornments are also important, sometimes useful, they are more often worn for aesthetics or for pleasure. Especially since among SCORPINISES, it is common for adornments (like bracelets) made by hand by spouses to be a powerful mark of affection (and this in many different cultures).

Therapeutic Incense
From a human perspective, some parts of SCORPINIAN culture can be misinterpreted or even misunderstood. One of these things is the fact that SCORPINISANS very often seem to consume very elongated and strange-smelling cigarette shapes.
Nothing to do with cannabis or our tobacco! SCORPINISANS are masters in herbal medicine, and in particular herbal medicine by olfactory inhalation!
They cultivate and make many concoctions of medicinal plants to heal. One of these preparations, which has become the most popular in commerce, is "scarlet incense"!
This incense has many medicinal virtues! And although some people have been able to associate it with opium consumption practices, this incense does not cause addiction or side effects on SCORPINISANS! By attaching to the olfactory receptors of the SCORPINISM antennae, they create a feeling of calm while providing an energy boost similar to caffeine consumption.
The SCORPINANS consume it regularly and are even used during sporting events or funeral rites (often the most danceable).

Trade and currency
The SCORPINANS are good traders, sometimes better than humans!
But one of the things that intrigued Earth explorers is that they still use coins (not round, pierced and threaded by one end on a cord to group them), while their era is similar to the digital era that these humans knew.
The reason comes from the fact that the SCORPINIS see stock market values as a waste of time... the price of a product changes too quickly and therefore becomes complicated to sell... therefore, by keeping a standard value formed by primary metal coins, they can play on bartering notions to bargain together. The metal coins serve them either as credit to pay for services or as materials to repair their tools.
However, this economy has its flaws and only really works on short commercial circuits, hence the appearance of "short circuit chains" which allow it to work even on a wider distribution.
